A modern theatre complex, with five theatres, is specially designed with advanced, specialised surgical equipment - one is equipped with the Excimer laser. Specially trained ophthalmic nursing staff support the doctors during eye operations. A wide range of highly specialised and state of the art equipment, for example, YAG & ARGON lasers, Ocular Coherent Tomography, Heidelberg Tomography, IOL Master and Fluorescein cameras are used for treatments and examinations. A Photo-Dinamic Therapy Unit is also available.

Excimer Laser - The Cape Eye Hospital has recently installed the latest state of the art NIDEK Excimer Laser EC-5000CX Series. This laser is designed to reshape the cornea by PRK/LASIK to reduce or eliminate myopia/hyperopia with or without astigmatism, and PTK. The NIDEK FinalFitTM software receives the measured data from the OPD-Scan II, performs a simulation of the postoperative corneal shape, and generates excimer laser shot data using the data imported from the OPD-Scan and target correction data that are entered. This customized wavefront facility improves patient outcome results and minimizes night vision halo’s and glare.

Argon Laser - Argon laser treatment is used to treat retinal problems. Beams of the Argon laser are used to seal weak blood vessels in the eye, repair retinal damage, and treat certain types of glaucoma.

YAG Laser - Yag laser treatment assists in remedying cloudy, post-surgical membranes from the eye after cataract surgery.

PDT Laser - Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment for some cases of the wet form of age-related macular degeneration.
